Teachers have turned to games now-a-days in order to try to supplement their ESL classroom lesson plans. Their reason for doing so is to add to the lesson in such a way as to benefit the students more. The benefits are a more co-operative group dynamics and it has been shown that the students actually retain the new material longer and with better comprehension.

What Do Austrians Eat?

By Bernhard Baumgartner

Austrian cuisine is not all about and Austrians don´t live exclusively on dumplings, Goulash, roast pork or Wiener Schnitzel. Well, perhaps some do; but you will find dishes like Glazed cubes of Atlantic salmon on mint-flavored orange essence accompanied by wild flowers and placed in a nest of homemade pasta in Austrian restaurants. Home-cooks also do their best to stay up-to-date in cooking. That fancy dish mentioned above you can probably find in a restaurant in Vienna as well as in Kapfenberg, Honolulu, Timbuktu or Shanghai.

By Billie Ann Lopez

CROWN PRINCE RUDOLF OF AUSTRIA

Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria (21 August 1858 – 30 January 1889) was the son and heir of Emperor Franz Josef of Austria and Elisabeth of Austria. His death, apparently through suicide, along with that of his mistress, Baroness Mary Vetsera at his Mayerling hunting lodge in 1889 made international headlines, fueled international conspiracy rumours and ultimately may have sealed the long-term fate of the Habsburg monarchy.

STRIKING YOUR WAY TO HEAVEN

By Billie Ann Lopez

Not only was bowling once part of a religious rite, but long after it developed into a strictly secular game, Martin Luther is said to have determined the number of pins used. Although it is not known just how far back in time variations of the game were played, evidence suggests at least 7,000 years.

The Turkish Face Of Vienna

The city of Vienna can be regarded as a world metropolis, even though there are then two million inhabitants. Through the course of history, Vienna has always been a melting pot for a variety of nationalities. A real Viennese has Slav as well as Hungarian and Italian, German, Jewish and sometimes even Turkish blood, since Turkish captives of the wars against the Ottoman Empire were generally converted to the Catholic faith and then led life like and as an Austrian.

People Networking

By Joe Riggio & Silvia McDonald

How do I find work or make friends in Vienna? Many people have asked this question in our forums or via E-mail.  I am using our website and newsletter in hopes I can share the things I have learned with people who may have this question in the future. The best method I have found is "People Networking". And one of the purposes of Virtual Vienna Net is to help you find the contacts to get started, so after you read this, check out some of the Networking Sources on our site.
