I know it sounds silly, but have you read the reports and information on the conditions many children in Eastern Europe have grown up under since the fall of the iron curtain? It is surprising the violent crime rate has not risen more along with the rest. If you treat someone less than human, don’t expect them to show the traits.

Me? No. I tend to treat most of the folks around me the way I myself like to be treated within the cultural context of my choosing. Silvia, I highly respect your opinion on this board as one of the few voices of reason, but I strongly believe that we need to lay off these touchy-feely sentiments.
A lot of people around the world have been handed great opportunities to better their situation, including massive development aid and investments going beyond the 'new' member states of the EU, and not only by the citizens of Austria. However, this does not constitute an open invitation to export behavior that put those countries in the toilet in the first place.
