...'culturally oriented' vacations maybe, but I've heard that folks in resorts like Sharm el-Sheikh are like, "Revolution? What revolution?!? Oh, that's nice. Less salt on my Margarita please..." But, yes! vacationing there should be most interesting for the next few months. I think I'll pass for a while - lettin' things work out a bit.
Cool

The People Have Toppled the Regime!

My heart is caught up in the coverage of the men, women, grannies, children, (and their puppies & roosters) exulting in utter joy.

Please let their courageous efforts be met with a peaceful and transcendent transition to a leadership -- and new way of life? -- that these brave Egyptian citizens deserve.

(If the above paragraph sounds like a prayer, then so be it, from this atheist!)

A Very Big Deal.

Without the US puppet, the shit's going to hit the fan. I wonder who Langley will install next. If they want democracy they need to get rid of the US government.

Exactly. Can't seem to figure out how this would be Langley's fault, though...

The concept of the U.S./CIA still having anything much to do with the future of the Middle East is getting a bit outdated, oder?

(I know that somehow, some way, this very statement will make Luvwine's head explode -- earnest discussion welcomed) Wink

We (the West) stick our big feet in, and the credulity of the voices in-country goes down.

With great good luck, as in Egypt, freedom -- of whatever sort -- is won.

And then what?

No one knows.

Let THEM, endlich, decide. And then stand by to help AFTER.

If, and however, we can.

It’s still far from clear, to me, exactly what “the people” accomplished, or how.

Shocked Sad I'm Crying!

They threw off the foot of their "oppressors". Through "massive" people power. The "power of the masses". Too many to effectively murder and still maintain some some level of legitimacy.

Imagine what life would be like if a potential consequence of the words you just posted could very well result in a a visit from your local, friendly secret police; you being bundled off to an unknown location - beaten, starved and occaissionally having pool cue stick violently rammed where the sun don't shine until it practically comes back out into sunshine because your "leadership" does not like or understand the purpose behind your words. Now, imagine this NOT being a potential consequence of your actions. Wouldn't that feel kind of "uplifting"? Pretty extreme, but apparently an everyday experience for too many.

The problem with this revolution is that there was no leader to immediately take over, or to lead the revolution in the first place. Once the USA vet some friendly pro-military candidates for the elections, it will be back to the status quo.

Wow, you sure love the fairy tale you’ve been sold. Far be it from me to interfere with that. Enjoy.

I'm sure Greg means, "Yes but now what????". After the euphoria has died down reality rears its head and the vacuum will be filled. But how? Interesting times.

I was wondering how long it would take for the Nut cases to see this as a sign of Apocalypse. Tongue in Cheek

Apocalypse Now Already!
By ELSPETH REEVE | February 15, 2011 5:18pm

Every morning, many seem to wake up hopeful that civilization has been blown to smithereens, but no--despite all the evidence the world is coming to an end, the city is still standing. You have to go to work. Nevertheless, we here at The Wire want to help you keep track of the latest indicators of the apocalypse. In today's survey of cataclysmic fears, we have Egypt, solar flares, and a public health manual.

Suleiman Is a Unicorn--No, Not That Kind

In Egypt, it is the best of times, it is the worst of times, it is... well maybe it's the end times? A member of the Fox Nation caused a stir when they posted a video clip of a weird green blob amid nighttime protests in Cairo under the headline "Horseman of Apocalypse Shows up in Cairo?" Media critics were shocked at the implicit suggestion that the Book of Revelations has anything to do with real life. But several others had spotted signs of the apocalypse in Egypt. In his coverage of the Middle East protests, Glenn Beck has referenced "every end-time theme; fire, riots, Islam, Israel, you name it," Religion Dispatches' Anthea Butler notes. Sites like Prophesy Today and Calvary Prophesy Report claim the protests are part of the "tribulation" period. But Baptist preacher Paul Begley goes a little further than Beck, too, opening his YouTube sermon with this passage from the Bible: "God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of a unicorn..." Begley, referencing the Fox Nation video, thinks Egyptian Vice President Omar Suleiman just might be the anti-Christ.

Sure, people danced in the streets, Begley says, but who was their leader? "Some geek from Google?!" he asks incredulously. With all this turmoil, there must be an anti-Christ.

No Brookie, nothing personal was reacting the "interesting time" part. Smile

The reference to nut case was out of order (for a moderator). Interesting times means just that, positive or negative.

I can state with nearly utmost assurance that Sylvia was referring to the Fox-related news headlines & newscaster hype that were referenced in the second & later paragraphs of the article she posted. NOT your comment.

Though the "interesting times" sentiment may be what caused her to produce that article, as an example of how some people and organizations choose to characterize an as-yet unknowable situation.

Mabus, the third anti-christ will soon appear. His death will mark the beginning of a war the world has never bore witness to.
