Hi All,
Been to Bobby's and to major supermarkets, but Maple syrop they have is of unknown origin ;)

And I am looking for only the one actually produced for the US or Canada (cause of standards) and imported here.

Any real American/Can products here? any suggestions?

Thank you!

Or should I order it from amazon.com ?!

The Ja! Natürlich maple syrup at Merkur Markt isn't bad. Organic food stores also carry real maple syrup. I myself prefer 'fake' syrup like Log Cabin, Aunt Jemima or whatnot. I don't know - I just like that better.... Lol!

Recently I found Griffin's Pancake Syrup (it's American one made in the midwest) at Globus in Freilassing (Germany, just over the border from Salzburg). For me in Linz it's only about an hour's drive to get there but for you it's a bit of a trek. However - just fyi for you or anyone else interested - if you ever find yourself out that way in Salzburg, Freilassing is literally just a hop, skip and a jump away across the border and going to Globus (http://www.globus.de/de_de/maerkte/freilassing/) is definitely worth a stop! They've got quite a few American (and English) products at 'normal' prices; not inflated Bobby's prices. It's a big place and it reminds me of Target back in the States. Also, a lot of everyday products are much cheaper in Germany than in Austria (cosmetic items, shampoo, certain food products, appliances, and and and...)

So, just a li'l info for you and others on the board to tuck away in your mental "good to know" category in case you ever find yourself out that way for some reason... Smile

Thanks.
As I wrote, I had been to Merkur and such already, but there is no indication of the % of Maple syrop in the syrop... and only Am/Can have 70% of it.

Hello peoples,

I'm a maple syrup fan myself (delicious on strawbs as well as pancakes, or in tea, etc.). As far as I'm aware, and going by the price, the following are *all* pure maple syrup (available in Grade A or Grade C):
+ Ja! Natürlich: from Billa, Merkur, Bipa (!),
+ Natur Pur: from Spar, Interspar, etc. and last but not least,
+ Alnatura Maple Syrup from DM (who also stock a nice range of organic foods including the very tasty La Selva Olive Paste from Italy... )

Cheers... and if anyone's making pancakes, let me know!
Fran

Re percentage of maple syrup, I'm kind of assuming that it's like with milk... no percentage is stated ;-)

Still, it would be nice to have "Pure maple syrup" on the bottle, or perhaps "100% maple syrup". For me, the taste tells its own story, or maybe I've been duped all this time.

I will look out next time and see if there's some extra-small print telling us the essential info. This is "Vienna, city of secrets", after all ...
;-)
Cheers,
Fran

American Maple syrup must be almost 100 pure maple syrup, or you cant use the name. You can buy the American one from Vermont at Amazon.de

Keep in mind that anything coming from outside the EU will be subject to inspection by the Customs folks (spelled -> delayed and doubled in price), so try to buy your Amazon goods on Amazon.de, if at all possible.

or amazon.co.uk if you need it in english. Only downside is that many sellers on Amazon.de or co.uk do not ship outside UK/Germany.

Thanks very much guys!
Of course the range of syrups on the american amazon made me cry, even packaging is completely different from the european - i would love to lay my hands on it some time.

And yes I am ordering some from the UK amazon, as soon as I am finished with the two jars I currently have Razz
I already had pancakes, had it with yogurt and just drank it on its own - lol. so far no effect on weight!

By the way, Ja! Naturlich is made in Danmark (I hear) . Which is totally bizarre! Rolling Eyes

I am a Canadian and can give a bit of relevant information.

Canada produces and exports 80% of the world supply of maple syrup.

If the product comes from Canada and is labeled “maple syrup,” it must be made entirely from pure maple sap, and contain at least 66% sugar.

There are several grading systems: a Canada federal system and provincial systems (of which Québec, the largest producer is most relevant). There are further different USA federal and state systems, as well.

The grades essentially are based on color and density, with light being the most highly favored. However, many people prefer the darker lower grades as more flavorful.

Wikipedia.org has a much more detailed explanation.

We usually tote a litre or two of local product back from Canadian visits. We also have bought the product from Merkur and have found it fine.

There is also a good one from Zielpunkt - from their Natural section. It's also quite cheap - 4.70 for 250 standard jar. But it is from a darker variety, grade C.

That tropical sun peanut butter is what I get too... Sooo good.

If you want to get a good hot sauce (not insanely hot, but lots of kick and great flavor), you can get bottles from this guy in the 7th: https://www.facebook.com/MonsterRoid really great stuff he also makes a hummus to die for.
