Dear All,
I wonder if any of you can shed some light on this one! We bought a wonderful VW ex Feuerwehr bus which we want to take back to the Uk and register there. BUT at this point in time it is de-registered in Austria.
Does anyone know how the 'Blauer Tafeln' system works or some form of temporary license plates + insurance so that we can drive it back to the Uk.
You will probably now say 'why don't you just insure and register it and then cancel it when you get back to the UK.' Well, here is how the whole problem started. We cannot register it in Austria as private individuals without prohibitively expensive modifications by an approved coach builder to meet Austrian health and safety regs from which, unbeknowen to us when we bought it, the Feuerwehr is exempt but we are not.) The rules re DIY camper conversion (which is why we bought the bus) are much laxer in the UK. Hence our decision to register it in the UK (we're also now living back in the UK.) But how to do it without it costing an arm and a leg??
Does anyone have any ideas. I would be most grateful. Sincerely, Ben
