Vienna to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with cultural festival
Vienna will celebrate the 17 March St. Patrick’s Day this year with a 20 March parade on the Ringstraße and eight cultural events from 13 to 24 March, it was announced today (Fri).
Besides the parade, the events will include a film evening and concerts at different venues across the city.
Organisers expect at least 500 Irish to march in the parade beginning at 11am on 20 March from the Schottenkirche church to the Burgtheater.
There will be a 500 square metre tent on Löwelstraße near the Burgtheater from 19 to 21 March in which 20 different groups of performers will entertain the public by singing Irish songs and dancing Irish dances.
The last festival event will be a "poetry night" at Charlie P’s Irish Pub and an evening of songs by Sarah Power at piano manufacturer Bösendorfer’s hall on Graf-Starhemberg-Gasse.
A piano evening at the hall will take place on 26 March shortly before the firm closes its doors there for good.
Just in case anybody doesn´t know what to do tonight, there are of course festivities this year as well celebrating today´s special date:

I´ll be hanging around a certain bar on Währingerstrasse tonight like every year, but for the party-people amongst you, that event in the Ottakringer brewery sounds very promising as well ...
Yes, Irish films, it was "The wind that shakes the barley" last night, nothing for the faint hearted but brilliant, and there will be two more Irish filsm on Sunday in Top-Kino, pls. see the link I posted for the details.
And of course lots of music and dance all weekend in the festival-tent next to the Burgtheater, and the Irish parade on Saturday at 11:00 AM from Schottenkirche to the tent ...

If you have any interest at all in Drama or Theatre you should go!! I had Patrick Lonergan for a few classes for my undergrad, he's great! Definitely my favourite English lecturer.
