Television in Vienna - What are the options? When I first moved to Austria, there was one thing I just couldn't leave behind - good old British telly. I always hated synchronised television and I am loathed to watch anything dubbed into German, even though I am told it can seriously improve your language skills! Before I first arrived I was checking on what I could and couldn't receive when I eventually settled in Austria, was it even technially possible? There are
currently 3 main television and video standards used throughout the
world. In Austria the standard is PAL - Phase Alternating Line. A Pal
Format television and video allows viewing and taping of the standard
PAL format. A Mufti-system TV and VCR will accommodate
NTSC(U.S. made) tapes and the PAL format. Both systems allow
for hook up to satellite or cable.
