    Hello everyone.
I’m hoping I can get the benefit of your advice. The family and I are moving from Perth, Western Australia to Vienna in the middle of next month. I have an Australian motorcycle licence (West Australian RE Class – up to 250cc only). I have read in another forum that Austria will not accept my bike licence as is and that a practical test will be required to be able to ride here. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Also, at the moment my German is basic – anyone had experience sitting a practical riding assessment? Can it be done with (very) limited German? Any help appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Stu

I did it without German at all. I think I even asked the instructor to speak English 🙂 Don’t remember much from 10 years ago 🙂
I would not worry about German for a practical test.

You shouldn’t find the lack of German a problem, and for 250cc its a fairly basic test anyway.

When you get to Vienna, I’ll give you the number of my motorbike buy, he’s a legend at helping people with a love of bikes…. he’s servicing mine today….

Thanks guys for the comments. Does not sound like a big deal!

Chef, the other thing in the back of mind is bringing across my bike. I have a 1981 Yamaha SR 250 which has been modified a fair bit. I really don’t want to part with it but it does not have an EU certificate of conformance. Any experience with that sort of thing?

    Cheers,
    Stu
