Is it possible to do this in Vienna — would love to foster a kitty cat or puppy and give it some love instead of it being couped up in a shelter. Has anyone had the opportunity to do this?

    hey, siu!
let me know about it as well if u have more info. would love to take in one (prefer dog), while waiting for the right person/family to give it its forever home.

i do know tierheim vösendorf only give away dogs/cat for adoption. I adopted one in 2010, and is now a spoilt brat 🙂

I found this site later on in the day:

    http://www.tierversuchsgegner.at/index.php/pflegeple-gesucht-tiervergabe-307/43-dringend-pflegeple-gesucht.html

The lady who picked up the phone told me to give a call to Frau Matias– her mobile /handy number is listed on the link above. 😀

The main animal shelter in Vienna is in Vösendorf http://www.wr-tierschutzverein.org/. There you can foster against an annual fee. We got a dog from there (not as a foster) a few years ago. He had a “foster mum” who went to care for him regularly and who also took him home with her over weekends and for the odd holiday (she was unable to foster him at home for health reasons). When we adopted Orion we kept in touch with his foster mum so she could see how he adapted to life with a family.

The information (in German) you find under the link “Patenshaften” on the left hand side. There is also an online form you can fill in to apply for this. If you don’t speak or read German you might want a little help with this (just to state the obvious).

PM me if you have any questions!
