You guys are so sweet thanks! I am healthy eating obsessed like you Helli! Appreciate your tip. I am going to look into that! I read once that it is best to stick to the bio market if you really want organic. What I do like about Hofer is that they have a lot of local food so it will already be sprayed less just from that. A lot of Ja!Natürlich is from Italy and most things from Spar are too.

p.s. LOVE chia seeds! Make a great egg replacer too!

You do not have to log in to read here either WienA. if you do there is a glitch and I have yet to have anyone report it.
Really? Wow if that is true that is great. I even complained once here and Stephen and others said tough effectively.
Cheers.

Thank you ,,, great idea,,,Love your blog!
It is not so easy here, I read online (Arbeiterkammerl /SP?) that a lot of the ‘organic’ veg at the karmelitremarkt. Nashmarkt + others, in fact tested as not being organic. The Veg at Hofer was the best organic, nothing whatsoever was found. Reasonable priced too. Anything else that you are going to post I am going to read, I love healthy eating!
Chia seeds ! Latest discovery 🙂
Helli, what about Ja Naturlich? We usually buy Ja from Billa/Merkur etc and also produce from Biomaran though they are not as convenient to where we shop.
Not surprised that the market goods are not as the label says but thanks for the heads up regardless!
April 22, 2013 at 1:40 pm #2547WienAMemberSilvia, I stand corrected, I just checked and it seems you now allow non-logged in members to read. What a relief.
I haven’t tested it on the mobile device like chef says.
April 23, 2013 at 1:32 pm #2549WienAMemberSilvia, any chance to have a “recent posts” option both as a guest, and user?
April 23, 2013 at 4:09 pm #2550SilviaMemberWien, you have to be a member to post. Letting a guest post would open us up to spam bots and there are just to many to content with at the moment. My partner and I are looking to upgrade the site if our current study shows it is still feasible to keep it on line. I will see what I can do
April 24, 2013 at 7:15 pm #2551chefsmithMemberIm not a huge advocater of Organic meat to be honest, I dont think its a guarantee of treatment of animals, and I certainly don’t believe that it gives a better flavour.
Give me a caring conventional free range butcher any day of the week.
Organic veg is a different matter entirely though.
April 25, 2013 at 8:25 am #2552iheartmypandaMemberChefsmith you are right that how the animals are treated is more important and enhances flavor. However, the issue in organic vs. non organic is what the animals eat! Corn fed cows get sick a lot and therefore get a lot of antibiotics. Their tummies are made to only handle grass. I have yet to find a meat source in Vienna where I am assured the animals are treated well, allowed to be out grazing, and slaughtered in a humane manner. Most friendly farms give their animals to a slaughterhouse to be slaughtered and brought back. What goes on in that house is a mystery. The cow will release a lot of cortisol into it’s body from the stress of going through the process.
My research so far has left me a vegan. The Ja!Natürlich meat says on the package that it is pastured beef. I can’t verify if that is true, I can only hope. 🙂
April 30, 2013 at 10:22 am #2553HelliMemberIt is hard for me to think about animals in terms of being kinder so that i can eat them.
Just think about it, humane treatment for better taste,,,ewww
Most Chickens that are served up in restaurants have lived their short lives in an A4 sized space! It is just wrong, but not all people care.
May 1, 2013 at 11:11 am #2554chefsmithMemberThe sentiments are no different than tending carefully to a vegetable garden to get fresher, tastier vegetables.
Just with animals for meat.
Though I completely agree with battery hens being a terrible thing.

Silvia, no completely on board with that!
I just mean can we have a “view recent posts” as a guest because unless I log in, I would have to go through every forum to see what new posts there are.Makes it tedious and forces one to log on. Most sites are quite open to reading..
Anyway for sure, it’s your board, your choice 🙂 Best of luck and hope all is well!

I am starting to thnk that humans are inherently very selfish creatures. As long as it doesn’t hit ‘me’ it’s all good.

Yep the human virus is ”sel-fish” as a ‘survival INSTINCT’, the only problem is when humans refuse to evolve in the true sense of gettin civilized, makin progress, …. rest, I leave it to nigel: http://www.copyblogger.com/author/sean/
May 27, 2013 at 2:33 pm #2566iheartmypandaMemberHi everyone!
I would rather not get into the discussion above if that’s ok. I will eventually write a little about meat in my blog even though I’m basically a vegan because if meat eaters switch to less meat and especially to organic meat- it will make an impact.
My philosophy and the philosophy of my blog is that every euro you spend casts a vote for the kind of world you like. Choosing organic, choosing less meat, choosing cruelty free products- all of that casts a vote! All big companies care about is the bottom line and it is the only way to send a message.
It is not hard and a lo of times fun to vote for a healthier world and a healthier you!
It would mean the world to me if y’all could take a moment and like the fb page for the blog: https://www.facebook.com/ueberfood
I have a really cool giveaway with two prizes planned for when I reach 100 likes!
Thank you everyone!
