March 3, 2011 at 9:55 pm #1855blueorangeMemberJobs are served on the platter to me, and everyone should be the same
what does that mean?!
March 3, 2011 at 10:01 pm #1856blueorangeMemberFor me it is difficult, because there are no salaries that are of interest for me here. Nor there are really interesting exciting jobs, because of this market and economy, Too small, too old, to bureaucratic , laid back, etc.

A bit tongue in cheek – just means it is completely easy

Maybe you should try some international companies ?

March 7, 2011 at 10:43 pm #1865irinapirMemberhunting for 5 month….. no result 🙁
I think (hope) that when I am excellent in German it will be more easy…..
Is not it so ?
April 1, 2011 at 12:20 pm #1875writer55MemberDear job hunters, even when – and if – you do learn to speak German, it doesn’t necessarily get you a job here. Because Austria still allows for age discrimination, which e.g. in the UK is illegal. OK – in the UK it is even illegal to require English language skills 😈 but you get the picture.
When I (with native skills in three languages including German) and more than 20 years of professional experience apply for a job with an Austrian company the default response is: “we find your qualifications very interesting, unfortunately we have strict guidelines…” etc. What that means: don’t bother unless you’re younger than 35. (Never mind that at 35 you’d obviously be less experienced.) Many companies even spell it out: Join our young team… So don’t bother unless you’ve just graduated.
Gender-based discrimination has been illegal for some time, even here in Austria. Age discrimination is not…
April 1, 2011 at 8:14 pm #1877Fritz1978ParticipantBut what do you want to do against that, I mean legally ? You could of course take date sof birth out of CV´s, but than again, if a company wantssomebody of a certain age, unimportant if they mention it openly in the advert or not, without a picture and a date of birth you might get the odd job interview more, but those candidates that are not complying with the companies expectations will simply not get beyond the first meeting…
And how do you want to get everybody to start taking their pictures and DOB´s off their CV´s, legally forbid it ?CU, Fritz

Yes, that is EXACTLY what I would like to see happen!! Also the family/marital status!

I’m with you all the way, Viennamom. I don’t have a personal problem with the picture or the marital status, but we are talking about EQUALITY here. And in this field (and a few others as you may have discovered :-)) Austria is WAY behind many other countries. And yes, Fritz, one can actually forbid age discrimination!
