As long as you do not enter into a relationship with an Austrian, you should be pretty safe. lol
As for Viennamom’s experience I have had the opposite. Scared for my life walking down the street in America being robbed numerous times, shot at and had to shoot at people etc. Here I have had my bike nicked once. I guess it comes down to luck sometimes.

But all in all, yeah, it’s a very safe city.
Almost exactly a year ago in this very thread you wrote “Vienna is not a safe city.” Wonderful stuff.
the whole year passed and you still didn’t acquire a sense of humor, well sarcasm in this case
I am sure that all others understood, but for you specially I have to spell it out: my last phrase was ironic (see wikipedia if the need be) and the key words there were but and yeah 🙂
So just in case you are still in the woods, my opinion didn’t change from las year! thanks for tracking my posts though!

Sorry, I confused blue and orange :)) ironic. didn’t have my coffee yet. What I mean to say: Vienna has the same rate as the UK: England and Wales, Italy …
Is it orange or yellow!? Vienna, or is it Austria!? Wake up & smell the coffee, what else?
August 7, 2012 at 7:50 pm #2128forestMemberJust really glad i live in a city where there are no riots as seen in other cities in the world; but controlled and civilised demonstrations. Admittedly these can be a bit annoying simply cos it slows down the traffic, but nothing more than that. People don’t carry guns around like the rest of us carry mobile/cell phones. Universities and schools seem pretty safe; never heard of anyone walking in and murdering x amount of students and teachers on a whim. And I can go to the movies without worrying that i might be shot dead.
Nowhere is perfect, but i like and appreciate the safety this country has “provided” over the years i have lived here, in comparison to some other countries.
If on the subway you feel threatened or have been “grabbed” then pull the red lever and the train will stop, the cameras will have recorded everything that happened, and help will be at hand. There is no point in wondering why nobody helped, just deal with the situation and use the security tools available to you.

Not surely… Your perception is based on 10-year old data…

Surely Vienna is nowhere close to Paris and London for crimes. This has to be a perception.
There are places in Paris where the police gets bashed or shot on when they attempt to get in. I can’t believe this can happen in Vienna (up until now that is 🙂 )…
Today’s statistics tell a very different story. …
The numbers tell the story: …….
Whatever the source, the Viennese are worried. A survey carried out by the polling institute IMAS in May and June showed that eight out of ten Austrians have the impression that crime has risen over the last 10 years, and over 60% blame immigration.
So Austria’s politicians have a major challenge ahead to restore the society’s overall feeling of safety. And turn Vienna back into a village.Statistics ALWAYS tell a very different story (as it depends on definitions/motives & its a matter of comparision/interpretation) &, the numbers tell NOT ‘the’ story but reveal patterns. Anyways, what about places which do NOT TELL anything about the real happening-problems: 2nd & 3rd World countries (as defined durin cold war era).
So called ‘Nazism’ is just Fascism- intolerance- failure to accept, adjust & appreciate diversity. Nothing new since Absolutism/ Fundamentalism/ Monotheism only increased the turnover. Its domino effect is seen from its global movement like a shadow, from the genocide in central asia (of armenians by turks), much later to the states (native americans by the ‘new’ settlers), to southern & central europe (during WWs), to Neo-Nazism Currently in Central & West Asia (esp. incl. Russia) ; while African Continent hasnt had a chance to escape 400yrs of Creditors-Debitors Gaming.
Because of wide news coverage_networks its might give a wrong impression or feel that the ‘West’ is ‘bad’, lacking in ethics/ morality; when unconsciously compared to 2,3rd worlds- wherein almost nothing substantial is ever reported.
Crime stats are directly proportional to Population (density, growth+demographics), Poor economics, PoliticKing (media) & Personal arms(/weapons) partly because confuses correlation with causation. Still, Austria, esp. Vienna is a safe heaven -an oasis, but not a village (anymore). And Wien.10th dist is like London (doesn’t matter which parts – good, bad & ugly). Be it selective+regulated (im)migration or, multi-cult/multi-culturalism has failed, and those who say so, qoute selective ‘statistics’, focusing on imperfections & isolated cases to psyching up commonners/ service_working class/ ‘modern slaves’ into a fear psychosis. Many arn’t aware that there arn’t enough resources anymore to manage Criminals & Religious fundamentalists forever even in the most affluent countries.
After all the blood, sweat & tears of many brave, sacrificing & tolerant humans who have suffered past 2-300yrs all over the world, its a crime to say multi-cult failed. -
